Hello and a warm welcome to Ledger,
A brand-new open source project that is built for individuals and small teams who want a place to document knowledge, discuss problems, and keep decisions visible — without fighting a bloated platform or paying for features they’ll never use.
Built on PHP, MySQL and Bootstrap (5.3), Ledger is licensed under the GPL.
Ledger is modern software, our philosophy is;
- knowledge should accumulate, not vanish
- discussion should lead somewhere
- software should respect the person's time and intelligence
Get Started
Hi, I'm Lee, the founder, creator and main support guy here.
My advice is to use the forums first, the architecture of the forums and the knowledge base are very similar, so if you like the forums, you'll probably like using the documents too, both use CKEditor, with an easy-to-use toolbar and posting is deliberately super simple, not because you want amazing features, but because your eventual users will be happier when things are easy to use.
Support
Support is free, but time based, I live in the UK, so please be mindful of time differences.

Ways you can support us
Ledger exists because people choose to use it, contribute to it, and help one another. There’s no obligation to support it in any particular way — but if you find it useful and want to see it continue, there are a few meaningful ways to help.
Contribute knowledge
Ledger grows through accumulated understanding.
You can support it by:
- answering questions thoughtfully
- sharing experience rather than opinion
- improving clarity where discussions drift
Even a single well-written post can save dozens of people time later.
Help others
If you enjoy helping people work through problems, that help is valuable here.
Ledger works best when:
- newcomers get clear, patient responses
- misunderstandings are corrected kindly
- discussions stay constructive and grounded
This doesn’t require authority — just consistency and care.
Spread the word (quietly)
Ledger isn’t built to go viral.
But if you know someone who would genuinely benefit from it, pointing them here helps more than any promotion ever could. Quality communities grow through relevance, not reach.
Support financially (optional)
Ledger is free to use, and it will stay that way.
If you’d like to support development, hosting, and the time spent maintaining it, you can make a small donation. This is entirely optional — there’s no paywall, no feature gating, and no expectation.
Think of it as buying a coffee, not a subscription.
Donate £10 securely via Stripe.
Help steward the community
As Ledger grows, having people around at different times of day makes a real difference.
This might look like:
- keeping an eye on unanswered questions
- nudging discussions back on track
- welcoming new members and setting the tone
If you naturally find yourself doing this, it won’t go unnoticed.
What matters most
Ledger doesn’t need hype, pressure, or growth tricks.
It needs:
- thoughtful users
- patient helpers
- people who care about quality
If that sounds like you, you’re already supporting Ledger — whether you donate or not.
